This image of Jesus shows him resolutely looking ahead, focused and determined.
But behind him we see the tempter, whispering to Jesus to use his power for his own glorification. Jesus resists.
What are the whispered voices telling you? To take the easy option, that you’re not good enough, that you don’t have what it takes to follow God, to promote yourself at the expense of others…
Look at Jesus. Hear his voice. You are loved and you are enough. Know that in his love he will help you to resist temptation, and will forgive you if you don’t.
Lord Jesus Christ,
Thank you that I am loved, and that I am enough.
Help me to resist the whispered voices,
that would lead me away from you.
And to walk the path of righteousness with you. Amen.
