The Nativity by Juan Gonzalez, 1662

An image of the nativity may seem a strange place to start a series of reflections about Lent, but look closely at the picture.
Where is Jesus?
In all the busyness of the stable, and wear and tear of a very ancient picture, it takes a moment to find him. He’s right there in the middle of it all, but you have to stop and look for him.
As we start our journey through Lent, we need to take a moment to pause and look for Jesus. He is always there, but in the midst of busy lives, we don’t always notice him.
Lord Jesus Christ,
in my busy life,
or when all around me seems in chaos,
help me to pause and look for you,
the one who is always present with me. Amen.
