Lent, Day 3 (Friday)

Christ in the Wilderness, Ivan Kramskoi, 1872

This image of Jesus shows him alone in a barren land, an intense look on his face, his head bowed and his hands clutched together, maybe in prayer.

Maybe this is how you feel. Alone in the wilderness. Searching for direction or answers.

Look again. On the horizon there is beautiful pink light. The promise of a new day dawning.

Imagine that Jesus in this picture is praying for you, and praying for those you love. And remember that he is our hope and our salvation, however bleak things may seem right now.

Lord Jesus Christ,

When I feel lost and alone in the desert,

help me to know that you are with me,

and to see the signs of hope,

even if they seem far off.

Amen.
