Lent, Day 35 (Monday of Holy Week)

The Sermon on the Mount

This image of Jesus delivering the sermon on the mount is full of life and energy and movement. It reminds us that Christ’s teaching isn’t something static, an unchanging set of rules to be slavishly followed.

No, Christ calls us to life, and life in all its fullness. He calls us to a radical self-giving of ourselves to him. He teaches us to seek out the kingdom of God, and when we find it, to treasure it above all else.

Where have you seen the kingdom of God today? What can you do to treasure and share it?

Jesus, my teacher and guide,

Help me this day

to strive first for the kingdom of God

and his righteousness.

Amen.
