The Risen Christ and Mary Magdalene, Tapestry in Lillington Parish Church, Warwickshire

For nearly a decade, as the Vicar of Lillington, I had the privilege of saying Morning Prayer each day whilst gazing on this beautiful tapestry. It’s full of gorgeous detail, every bit familiar to me.
But what I always come back to is Mary, and her name ‘Maria’ in Latin, prominent at the top and centre. At the lowest, most awful moment of her life, Jesus came and spoke her name, ‘Mary’.
When someone knows and speaks our name it gives us identity. We are an individual, unique and precious. We are known.
As you reflect on this picture, remember that Christ loves you and knows you by name.
Thank you Jesus,
that you love me
and know me by name.
Amen.
