The night has been long. The boat has been battered by the storm. The disciples are exhausted.
Then, out of the gloom, a figure appears. The disciples are terrified. The figure speaks.
‘Take heart, it is I; do not be afraid.’
It is Jesus.
In this image, the light shines from Christ, guiding the disciples towards him. He is the light in the darkness.
When you are weary or afraid, hear those words of Jesus, spoken to you:
‘Take heart, it is I; do not be afraid.’
Christ is the light that comes to us, to bring rest and peace.
Be still, my soul:
the waves and winds still know
His voice, who ruled them while He dwelt below.
