Description
The prayer forms part of a long liturgical poem known as St Patrick’s Lorica or breastplate. This version was translated from the Gaelic by Cecil Alexander in 1889. “…Christ be with me, Christ within me, Christ behind me, Christ before me, Christ beside me, Christ to win me, Christ to comfort and restore me. Christ beneath me, Christ above me…” The wording on the tile forms a spiral, in itself much used in the early Christian church of Britain and Ireland to represent growth and fulfilment. A comforting message for all of us, perhaps particularly when we need it most. A recent recipient said “It will never be far from me….”
