Lent, Day 5 (Monday)

Christ in Glory (Tapestry), Graham Sutherland, 1962

This extraordinary image of Jesus dominates Coventry Cathedral, and is a breathtaking 23m high. As I walk into the building each day, I cannot fail to know that Christ is always with me. There he is, enthroned in glory, watching over us.

But look closely and you will see that between his feet is a life size figure of a human, made diminutive by the colossal scale of the Christ-figure.

Sometimes we can reduce or limit God. As you reflect on this picture, allow yourself to feel the enormity of the Christ who loves you, stands over you, and prays for you.

I summon today

Christ to shield me, Christ with me,

Christ before me, Christ behind me,

Christ within me,

Christ beneath me, Christ above me,

Christ at my right, Christ at my left.
